Role of Encoders in Elevator Control System

 Introduction

Encoders are used in motion feedback motion control machines. The encoder is a detection device that provides feedback. Encoders convert motion into an electrical signal that can be read by some type of control device in a motion control system. The encoder sends a feedback signal that can be used to determine position, count, speed, or direction. A control device can use this information to send a command for a particular function.

Elevator Encoders

Elevator encoders perform multiple tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of electric elevators:

  • Elevator motor communication
  • Elevator speed control
  • Elevator door speed control
  • Vertical positioning
  • Elevator governors
Encoders provide reliability and accuracy in determining the location and travel speed of the elevator while communicating this feedback to an electronic PCB ( VVVF drive) that controls and changes the speed of the elevator motor.

Elevator encoders are an important part of the elevator control system which allows the elevator to stop levelling the floor, fully open and close the doors and provide a smooth and comfortable ride for passengers
